Friday, October 3 - Day 16

Still in Savannah

What a great day! We decided to stay all day in S and see the sights. Got a sightseeing tour bus which took us all over the city with a commentary about the notable buildings, most of which were from prior to the Civil War and some were built prior to the Revolutionary War. In the 50's developers were buying the old properties and tearing them down to build new properties. Seven women formed the beginning of a group to save the old buildings which led to a whole industry today dedicated to restoring the old buildings which are worth a fortune now. The architecture of S is truly magnificent if you like looking at buildings. It's ok but I discover again that I prefer looking at a mountain to looking at a building. I prefer to sit on the bank of the Yellowstone to the bank of the Savannah. Cities are really marvels of human engineering but geological engineering is superior to my mind. We went back to the hotel to relax a bit then to S riverfront which is lined with restaurants. We ate a good dinner there last night and went back there this evening. I had a shrimp po' boy with parm/garlic grits. Lisa had shrimp and scallops in a thermador sauce over linguini. Both good. There was an Octoberfest on the riverfront with an umpah band. We became friendly with a bunch of old soldiers from the NCO academy in Bat Tolz, Germany, who were having a reunion. Had a good nights sleep.

I couldn't upload photos today so will send them later.
