addendum Wednesday, September 8 - Day 6

Oops! forgot some interesting information from yesterday.

"O give me a home where the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play!" It looked like the buffalo wouldn't roam as we drove 60 miles of a wildlife loop that was connected to Needles Highway in the Custer State Forest. The deer and the anteloped played. Dave had a few discouraging words which caused a large bull buffalo to finally appear along the side of the road. Got good photos. Tried to get Lisa to pet it so Dave could take photos and then Lisa had some discouraging words. And the skies were not cloudy all day."

The bull was grazing - oblivious to the traffic that stopped to take his photo. Also saw a prong horn antelope, which happens to be the fastest land animal in the western hemisphere, and many donkeys in the middle of the road looking for food from cars. They were not concerned about the papparazzi.

When we had the all you can eat pancakes yesterday, dave had bison sausage. he didn't think it tasted any different than regular sausage.

As we were driving along Needles Highway, which is a winding, hairpin turn, tunnels highway with height and width restrictions. there was a camper that was close to the tunnel and he was letting people go past him. Not sure if he was going to make it through. Not really an option either to turn around. Wish we knew what happened to him.

Dave says the Black Hills reminds him of the Adirondacks with more granite showing and it smells of cedar. Just like 4-H camp.

Went to Custer City for Locktite for our car top carrier locks - the driver's side door is giving Dave a little trouble. He put it on last night and it seemed to work well when we needed to use it today. Went into a grocery store and they had fried chicken so we decided to have that for dinner. We got a loaf of bread and that was pretty tasty back at the campsite.

Entertainment for the evening was a movie that Dave got from Netflix - Close Encounters of the Third Kind. We watched that in anticipation of seeing Devil's Tower on Thursday. That movie was filmed at Devil's Tower in 1976. Another piece of info that I forgot earlier was the the movie "North by Northwest" was filmed in Keystone, where we stayed a few nights ago.
