Tuesday, September 14 - Day 12

We drove 97 miles yesterday.

I got up at 8 am and Dave was up earlier, as usual. We had our breakfast, the granola that we got from Kay Briggs. It is delicious! Thank you.

Left campground at 9:45 and drove to Jackson Lake Lodge. What a beautiful place. We booked a float trip for tomorrow with a luncheon for tomorrow and made reservations for dinner for 5:30 at Jackson Lodge for tonight with a view of the mountains.

Went back to campground - Coulter Bay, for lunch of rice and green beans.

The bathroom facilities are much nicer than the ones in Yellowstone. Here there are 3 flushing toilets and 2 sinks for a camping area. The sinks, though are the ones where you have to hold the handle and when you let go, the water stops. Also, we have a site with a bear proof container.

We walked along Lakeshore Trail, which goes around the lake, and it started to storm. We got a little wet but we didn't see any bears. I am armed and dangerous now because we each carry a canister of bear spray, which is a bear deterrent - stronger than the pepper spray used for personal self defense.

We took showers after our hike. They have facilities for $3.75 near the visitors center. 10 showers and hot water. We have our laundry going at the same place where we took showers and are waiting the the clothes to dry.

  1. We are really enjoying your blog and the photos. What an amazing experience! I know the trip was last week, but I wasn't pleasantly surprise by an article in our local paper yesterday about Custer (good timing). The author of the book, "Last Stand at the Little Bighorn: A Centennial" is speaking in Worcester tomorrow. The author is Nathaniel Philbrick. Might be an interesting read. The article in the paper was interesting. Here's a link to it: http://www.telegram.com/article/20100914/NEWS/9140404

    Enjoy!

  2. I forgot to ask if you remember the names of the people you met from NH. Do you know if their names are Beth and Ron Shugan? If so, Beth is friends with Shari. They are from NH and sold their house some time ago and have been living in their camper, traveling the country. You've already proven how small the world is from some of your encounters on this trip, so I thought I would ask. How funny would that be if it was them!
