Saturday, September 18 - Day 16

Up at 7 and went to Big O Tire in Jackson Hole for maintenance on the car. Visited a couple of grocery stores for sandwich makings for our journey. Traveled down I191 to Rock Springs, WY to I 80 to Laramie and 287 to Ft. Collins, CO, our final destination tonight - 440 miles 9 hours. The speed limit continues to be 75 on the highway but we keep it around 68. Coming through Farson, WY there is a hamburger shack that states "the best burgers around". We found that very funny because there was nothing else around - no restaurant within 50 miles in any direction. Also passed over Big Sandy River - which wasn't and Eden, WY - which wasn't also. Stopped in Rock Springs for lunch of turkey and salami sandwiches overlooking the wild horse corral, which the Bureau of Land Management periodically goes around looking for these horses. They can be adopted for $185 but you need to show that you have adequate space for them and be able to transport them.

While we were traveling, we saw so many freight trains with as many as 100 cars. Dave tried counting the cars on one and only made it to 75 with more cars to be counted. I guess it is easier and cheaper to transport things over the railway than the highway.

We left Wyoming and entered Colorado. Who knows what Colorado means? According to our AAA book it means "the color red". As soon as we crossed into Colorado the landscape changed dramatically - from being able to see 4o miles in Wyoming to red cliffs/hills/rocks in Colorado. As we were nearing Ft. Collins, we could see a fog like appearance over the mountains - thinking it was smoke from a fire. Guy at Super 8 said it was from a cold front moving through.

We are just a short drive now from Rocky Mountain National Park - maybe we will get a "Rocky Mountain High" like John Denver sang about.

It is really fun writing this blog every day and am glad you are enjoying it. We have been reading the comments so keep sending them!
