Thursday, October 14 - Day 42

Left Corbin, KY and headed toward the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Will stay two nights in the Elkmont Campground in the Park. It's called the Smoky Mountains because there is a bluish haze in the higher elevations.

We came through Pigeon Forge, where Dolly Parton has Dollywood. We didn't stop.

We took a short hike 2.6 miles round trip to Laurel Falls. It was a paved trail and the falls was beautiful as well as the fall colors. While walking we could smell the fresh air of being in mountains and in the woods. I wanted to stay at the falls – the sound of falling water is very relaxing.

The rangers warned us about the possibility of seeing bears and to put all food in a locked vehicle. They don't have bear boxes like other parks but the trash container is bear proof.

Came back to campground and Dave fixed Udon noodles, kippers (fish) and peas. The air temperature was starting to get chilly and we had some hot tea. Started to get dark around 7 and the temperature is supposed to be 34 degrees tonight.

We are very close to the Appalachian Trail and will do a walk on that tomorrow so we can say we walked part of it. There is also another water fall that we will probably hike to as well.

Finally posting this on Saturday due to no service in the campground.
