Tuesday, October 5 - Day 33

Left Barstow, CA and pointed the car east. We are headed toward the Grand Canyon and crossed the Mojave Desert to Needles, CA and started rising to the mile high plateau of Arizona.

On the drive we decided we would change our route in order to incorporate New Orleans into our schedule. Anyone wish to join us? Our tentative schedule (subject to change) will put us there on Thursday, October 14. We plan on being there Friday, Saturday and leave on Sunday.

We got off I40 in Williams, AZ for food supplies and gas and drove on the old Route 66, which Dave says he hasn't been on since 1965. My uncle Larry posted a comment "Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino - that's Route 66". I'm sure glad they built a better road for all the traffic.

We are staying in a Maswik Lodge cabin at Grand Canyon with a 4 minute walk to the South Rim. How cozy. Due to the high volume of people here at this time of year, we will have to move to a hotel room at the Lodge tomorrow because this cabin is not available.

They have a free shuttle bus service which is so convenient and will get us to all the major attractions. It rained a lot on our trip here today and it was a little hazy when we arrived. We took a walk along the rim and even though the light was not good the view is amazing.

We are going to get up early and walk the rim hopefully in time for the sunrise.
