Thursday, October 7 - Day 35

Left the Grand Canyon and it was a beautiful morning!

Went to the Visitor Center but no orientation film.

Continued on our way out of the Canyon area and stopped at a location called Desert View Overloook. It had different scenery than what we had looked at yesterday. Its hard to imagine the immense views and it was carved by the Colorado River.

We then drove to Monument Valley, partly in UT and CO and more red rocks. It is the placwhere John Ford made movies made movies with John Wayne -The Searchers and Stagecoach. If you watch the background in those movies you will see parts of Monument Valley. It is beautiful red rocks rising up to the sky. There was a 17 mile loop to get closer to these sights but the road was rough and we didn't want to subject the car to that. As we were driving closer to Monument Valley there clouds overhead and they seemed to reflect the red of the rocks. Not sure if it comes through in the photo.

Next stop was Four Corners - who knows what states makes up the Four Corners? It is the only place where I stood and reached all 4 states at once. (who gets the income tax? Dave asks) The states are Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.

Crossed back into Mountain time so we lost an hour. We stopped in Cortez, CO for the night and we will get an early start to see Mesa Verde National Park then on to Sand Dunes National Park.
